Robert Casey Jr.
Robert Casey grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was one of eight kids and his father, Bob Casey, was Pennsylvania’s 44th governor. Robert Casey taught 5th grade for a year and then became a basketball coach after receiving his degree for law at the Columbus School of Law. After being a teacher and a coach, Casey practiced law until 2002 when he decided to follow his father’s footsteps and run for the Democratic Party as governor of Pennsylvania. Casey quickly moved to higher positions by soon being elected Senator in his 5th campaign in over nine years.
Casey’s main priorities involve health care, the economy, the environment and foreign policy. He believes that by following the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that it will help create more jobs and aid those that are in desperate need. The Recovery Act is taking place in Pennsylvania and a few of the good things that have come out of it is the rebuilding of homes and funding a women- owned business that creates medical devices.
Casey is also a strong supporter of the health care reform. Recently a law has been passed in Pennsylvania, with the help of Casey, called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that will provide more security for those who have insurance and expand coverage to more than 32 million people who do not have coverage. This new law will reduce costs for Americans and reduce the deficit by 143 billion dollars within ten years.
Robert Casey is a humanitarian who strongly believes in helping other countries that are in need. He has often helped aid foreign countries by giving them necessary food supplies and even helped evacuate orphans out of Haiti after the devastating earthquake. Casey is constantly pushing the government to support refugees of war. However, even though Robert Casey is a Democrat, he also believes that the war in Iraq is a necessary one. He feels that it is our mission to stop Al Qaeda and to prevent Iran’s progressing nuclear program. Overall, Casey is a strong supporter of the war.
The environment seems to be Casey’s main concern when it comes to Pennsylvania. He believes in protecting the environment, preserving his state’s national treasures and keeping the environment healthy for future generations. But once again Casey seems a little passive when it comes to the topic of global warming. Even though Casey wants change for a better Pennsylvania, he thinks that there shouldn’t be so many mandatory reductions in pollution. Coal plays an important role in his state and he fears that there will be a massive loss of jobs if the coal plants were to be shut down.
Overall, Robert Casey seems to be a conservative democrat who wants what is best for his state but is afraid to take any serious action. On the outside he appears to be a simple family man who likes to have his friends and family call him Bob, but he is passionate enough with certain issues to leave his life behind as a teacher and take baby steps towards a change.
