He went to Emory University where he graduated magnum cum laude with a degree in political science. He went on to attend Georgetown Law School. LeMieux then returned to Florida and began practicing law. He was elected chairman of the Broward county Republican Party in 2000 and was asked to serve as Florida's Deputy Attorney General in 2003. On September 10, 2009, LeMieux was sworn in to the Senate to finish Senator Mel Martinez's term. He Represents the State of Florida as a Republican senator. Senator LeMieux would be up for reelection in 2010, but he has chosen not to run again. One of LeMieux's major focuses is federal spending and how it can be limited. One legislation he has passed is to cap federal spending at the 2007 levels so that by 2013, the budget is balanced and by 2020 the national debt is cut in half. LeMieux has traveled to Haiti as well as Honduras, Colombia, and Panama to support to ensure that our ties with South America are kept strong. Senator LeMieux is a part of the Armed Services Committee, the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee, the Special Committee on Aging and the China Commission. The Armed Services committee deals with the production of weaponry, military pay, promotion, benefits, retirements and the general armed services. The Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee communications, highways, aviation, shipping, transportation security, the Coast Guard, fisheries, climate change, disasters, science, space, tourism, consumer issues, economic development, technology, competitiveness, and product safety. The Special Committee on Aging deals with affairs related to the elderly.
