Looking at Robert Menendez life, from his childhood to his present day career, it is easy to consider that he is the American Dream. Raised by the public education system, it seems natural for this senator of New Jersey to be a large supporter of low- cost student loans and the right to a high learning education[1]. However, in order to fully understand this senator it will be crucial to delve further into his life and career. Menendez was born to Cuban on New Year's Dayin New York Cityto Cuban immigrantsin 1953. His father was a mechanic and his mother was a seamstress. The family moved to New Jersey where he graduated from Union Hill High School. He later received a B.A.from Saint Peter's Collegein Jersey Cityand earned his Juris Doctordegree from Rutgers School of Lawin Newark. In 1980, he was admitted to the New Jersey Barand became a lawyer in private practice. Menendez is married and has two children[2]. Menendez’s committee assignments include Banking Committee, where he is the chairman on the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. Energy and Natural Resource, Finance, and Foreign Relations where he is the Chairman, on theSubcommittee on International Development and Foreign Assistance, Economic Affairs, and International Environmental Protection[3]. Menendez follows many different genres if issues on a democratic stance, from the environment and supporting the use of solar power, but some of his most passionate issues are education, his state of New Jersey’s communities and immigration policies. Some of his point- of- views is as followed[4]: Immigration- Whether your family was part of the voyage on the Mayflower, one of the millions that stepped off a ship at Ellis Island, part of those who were brought to this nation against their own will, or, like my own parents, came to this country fleeing tyranny and searching for freedom, the vast majority of Americans have a personal connection to immigration. Unfortunately, our current immigration laws have failed us. That is why I support balanced comprehensive immigration reform that will enforce our laws, secure our borders and protect our national security, while also reflecting current economic realities and respecting the core values of family unity and fundamental fairness. By requiring those who are here in an undocumented manner to register with the federal government, pay taxes and learn English, we can determine who is here to pursue the American Dream, and who might be here to destroy it. Health Care; Patient navigators -- Author of law enacted in 2005 creating the Patient Navigator, Outreach and Chronic Disease Prevention program. This program establishes individual "navigators" to ensure patients understand and can successfully navigate our health care system. By encouraging people to visit doctors earlier, patient navigators help increase early detection, ensuring patients receive proper treatment before an illness progresses, improving outcomes and reducing the cost of care. Menendez was elected in to the Senate on January 18, 2006, having been appointed by New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine to fill the remainder of his term. Later in the year, the State of New Jersey elected him to serve a full six-year term as United States Senator. In November 2008, Menendez was chosen to head the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which is considered to be a top position. Among the many awards he has received, form the Appreciation award to the Hispanic Leadership Award[5], It is seemed that he has also received New Jersey’s full support.
